For the 37th Northern Counties International Salon of Photography 2016 we decided that it was time to introduce an Open Monochrome PDI Section,  Sadly this  led to the loss of the Open Traditional and Open Creative Sections, but of course the monochrome section has been balance by an Open Colour PDI Section.

However it is extremely pleasing to be able to report on a successful event, which enjoyed a 29% increase in entries over 2015, reversing what had been a disturbing trend over recent years.

The Salon has been organised by the NCPF and its federated clubs for 37 years. For 27 years the Salon was open to Colour Slides only, and known as the "Northern Counties International Slide Exhibition".

In 2007, at the invitation of South Shields PS, we incorporated their Print salon into our Exhibition. Since then, Colour Slides had to be dropped in 2011 and  Projected Digital Images (Electronic Images) have become firmly established.

The Salon awards FIAP, PSA, RPS, GPU and NCPF medals, and includes awards for specific subjects in most Sections. We also produce a full colour catalogue that has been granted 4 Star Rating by FIAP, and which is sent free of charge to ALL entrants.

There are also awards in each section, known as the Northumbria Trophies for the best entries by members of NCPF clubs, who also enjoy discounted entry fees.

All Acceptances and Awards (except the Northumbria Trophies, as they are not available to all entrants) in the Northern Counties Salons count towards Distinctions granted by FIAP, and UPI and towards Star Ratings and Distinctions granted by PSA.

We arrange two separate exhibitions, comprising acceptances to the Colour PDI, Mono PDI, Nature and Photo-Travel Sections on a DVD in one, and the Monochrome and Colour Prints in the other, which will be shown at many venues across the North of England.

To achieve this requires an enormous amount of work and commitment by a large band of willing volunteers, to whom our thanks are sincerely extended for their efforts.
